Enjoy a Dazzling New Smile with Porcelain Veneers
What’s keeping your teeth from looking their best? Over time, small chips and other damage can create imperfections you might want to erase. You might have a tooth that’s slightly smaller or unusually shaped, making you feel somewhat self-conscious about your smile.
Made of durable, lifelike porcelain, veneers can conceal these imperfections so you can have the flawless smile you’ve always wanted. Learn more about porcelain veneers in St. Augustine here and then call our office to schedule your appointment to learn more about whether our porcelain veneers procedure is right for you.
What Are Porcelain Veneers?
Each veneer is an individually crafted shell of dental porcelain—the same material used in porcelain crowns and other restorations. Veneers porcelain is a remarkable material. Sturdy and durable, porcelain also helps create a lifelike appearance since it reflects light in a way that’s very similar to natural dental enamel. This helps the veneers blend in with your teeth so nobody will ever know the difference.
Veneers fit over the front of each tooth. To make room for the veneer, a very thin layer of your enamel will be removed (less than one millimeter). Some types of veneers require little to no enamel removal at all, like the popular Lumineers® brand, and we’re happy to discuss this option and let you know if these might be right for you.
Are Veneers Affordable?
While veneers are often the secret behind the picture-perfect smiles of our favorite celebrities, they are still quite affordable. Several factors affect how much porcelain veneers cost, including how many veneers you’re getting, where they’re placed, and which type of veneers are used. Your dentist will review all your options for the porcelain veneers cost with you so you can decide what will work best for your budget.
We also offer financing options, which help many of our patients fit cosmetic treatments like veneers into their budget. Let us know if you’d like to discuss these options!
How Long Will My Veneers Last?
With proper care, veneers can last 15 to 20 years… or longer!
What do we mean by proper care? You should care for your veneers just like you care for your own teeth. Good brushing and flossing habits will help protect your veneers—and the teeth underneath—and regular visits to our St. Augustine dental office will allow us to check your veneers and see how they’re holding up.
If you grind or clench your teeth, we recommend wearing a nightguard to protect your veneers. Use caution when biting into crunchy, hard, or chewy foods, and avoid biting on items that aren’t food, like a pencil or your fingernails.
How Are Veneers Different Than Crowns?
A variety of porcelain teeth restorations are available, including both veneers and crowns.
While crowns can be—and often are—used in cosmetic dentistry smile makeovers, they are primarily a restorative treatment. Veneers conceal minor cosmetic imperfections by fitting over the front of the affected tooth. Crowns fit over the entire tooth down to the gum line, protecting and supporting a tooth that can no longer support itself, whether that’s through injury or infection. If damage to the tooth only impacts the enamel, a veneer is appropriate. If the damage penetrates to the structure beneath the enamel, however, then a crown is the right choice.
Veneers are the right choice for the following types of cosmetic imperfections:
- Surface-level chips and cracks that cause discolorations or shape irregularities
- Areas of staining or discoloration that are resistant to other types of whitening treatments
- Minor misalignments and spacing issues that don’t require orthodontic correction
- Irregularities in tooth size or shape that lead to a less uniform appearance when smiling
How Are Porcelain Veneers in St. Augustine Placed?
Getting veneers is a simple and straightforward process. Your journey to a healthy smile begins when you schedule your appointment with one of our talented dentists.
You and your dentist will meet to discuss your concerns and goals. After this conversation and a comprehensive evaluation, your dentist will provide a recommendation. If veneers are the right choice for you, the next step will be to take images and impressions of your teeth, which we’ll send to the lab we trust with our cosmetic dental restorations. We’ll remove the layer of enamel, if needed, and prep your teeth for veneers.
When your new veneers are back from the lab, we’ll temporarily fit them in place to ensure you are happy with the appearance. When you and your dentist are both satisfied, your veneers will be permanently bonded to your teeth.
After that, you’ll leave our office with your beautiful new smile, ready to show it off to everyone you meet!
Are you ready to take that first step? Call our office today, and let’s get started. We’re excited to become a part of your newfound joy and confidence in your smile.
